Takoradi: Suspect in recent fake kidnapping case pleads guilty; faces sentencing on Tuesday

The lead suspect in the latest fake kidnapping case in the Sekondi Takoradi metropolis, has pleaded guilty on two counts of deceiving a public officer and publication of false news.

Joana Krah, 29, pleaded guilty when she appeared before a Takoradi Habour Circuit Court A, presided over by his honor Michael Cudjoe Ampadu.

She confessed faking her kidnapping on Friday, October 22, 2021, in a bid to extort GH¢5,000 from a relative.

The prosecutor, Sergent Robert Amonoo Yawson, told the court that the other two suspects Susana Awortwe and Francis Eshun had been granted bail following a confession from the lead suspect that they were involved in the issue.

The suspect, according to the police conspired with the others accoplices to feign her kidnapping, after which a call was placed to her adopted father in demand for the ransom.

When Joana became aware that her adopted father had reported to the Police and an extensive search had commenced to find her, she showed up at the Takoradi Central Police Station on Saturday, October 23, to confess.

She claimed she was only joking with her adopted father with claims that she had been kidnapped.

The judge has deferred her sentencing for tomorrow, Tuesday October 26, 2021.

The suspect has since been sent to the Takoradi Central Police station.

Her other two accomplices have also been granted a police enquiry bail.
