The President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has promised to transform the Neoplan Transport Company to increase economic growth.
The President as part of his visit to the Ashanti region today paid a courtesy call on the Neoplan Transport Company, Kumasi.
Meanwhile, Managing Director of Neoplan Transport Ghana, Mr. Malek Abi Saab had earlier called for government’s monetary support to invest in the transport company.
According to him, the company has not gotten an order to assemble the buses here in Ghana and in Kumasi as they initially did for 11 years, and since the government is the major shareholder of this Company, Grovado is the minor shareholder which has invested in the company since 2013 without return of investment, they can’t continue to invest like this without future.
Mr. Malek Abi Saab averred that they will need the government to help them create a new system to revive the company and capitalize this industry, especially with the One District One Factory program.
He disclosed that the Neoplan Transport Company initially was having 1000 employees but today has reduced to 59 which if a proper plan is taking to revive the company.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. John Alan Kojo Kyeremateng in his statement said the problem of Neoplan, is to get support from the government through Metro Mass Transit to give them order for busses.
He also revealed that the government has planned to collaborate with the FADU Group and find for a loan to get an initial order of 100 busses to support the transport business as there are only 200 busses working on the road but they actually need 800 more busses.
He finally conclude that Neoplan Ghana will rise up again and also assured Neoplan Ghana limited management that it will surely put under the 1D1F.
Commending his friend who introduced Neoplan to Ghana, Mr. Henry Dzagba, and President Akufo-Addo said, the first President of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the former President John Agyekum Koffour transformed the Metro Mass Transit therefore, there is a need for him also to continue.
Nana Addo also assured to help the Metro Mass transit to get the order they need to revamp their transport business.
