
The Municipal Chief Executive of Nzema East, Madam Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, on Monday, July 31, 2023, led the people of Lower Axim in a clean-up exercise to tidy up the district capital from filth.
The exercise which took the residents about four hours was spearheaded by Hon. Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah in conjunction with the Chief fishermen and fishermen with support from ZOOMLION GHANA LIMITED, Zoy, and Environmental staff of the assembly.
It took the residents to desilt choked gutters, evacuating refuse dumps and sweeping filth from the town, beach and many more at various locations thereby giving relief to residents.
Madam Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, in an interview, told the residents not to see their involvement in communal labour as something enforced on them by the authority, but they should embrace it as part of measures to address sanitation challenges in the municipality.
She admonished the residents to keep their environments clean to avoid contracting diseases associated with filth, adding that the assembly will henceforth embark on such exercises frequently to get rid of filth that is engulfing the area.

She explained that the move was determined to stop the untidy conditions on the streets and beaches across the municipality.
Ho. Elizabeth Dorcas Amoah added that the exercise was not a punitive action but meant to reawaken and instill the spirit of volunteerism and communal spiritedness that seemed to be waning.
She bemoaned the waning interest, reluctance or complete refusal by the residents to adhere to conditions of full communal labour whenever it is called for.
The MCE encouraged the residents to show interest and participate in such exercises in the future.
She warned the residents against indiscriminately dispose of refuse in the municipality, saying that the assembly will not pardon anybody who will be caught untidy the environment.
The exercise which took place at Lower Axim from Spain to Boat ‘Ase’ were joined by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Daniel Essel, Municipal Engineer, Chris Santos Samene, Municipal Environmental Health Director, Mr. Felix Senyo, Chief Fishermen and other officers, staff of the assembly and workers from ZOOMLION GHANA LIMITED.
