The New Patriotic Party for Parliamentary Candidate for Kumawu, Ernest Yaw Anim has been elected the new Member of Parliament in the by-election held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

He polled 15,264 as against his closest contender the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Akwasi Amankwah who garnered 3,723 votes.

The Independent Candidate, Kwaku Duah who contested the former MP in the 2020 who some political watchers believed could cause a stair, managed to secure 2,478 votes. The second independent candidate who also bears the name Kwaku Duah had 62 votes.

The Electoral Commission organised the election following the passing of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Philip Basoah on Mach 28.

The election was fraught with accusations of vote buying and an already signed pink sheet at a polling centre, although the Electoral Commission described the document as fake.
