GES sacks 8 Chiana SHS students for insulting Akufo-Addo
Dismissed 8 Chiana SHS students
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has sacked 8 female students of the Chiana SHS in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region who were captured in a viral video insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The dismissal of the students comes on the heels of an investigation set into the case by authorities last year.
Prior to the dismissal, the students had been on suspension for their misconduct.
GES in a dismissal letter dated November 29, 2022, signed by the Director General of the GES, Dr Eric Nkansah, and handed to guardians of the affected students described their conduct as very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of conduct generally required of any student in Ghana’s educational system.
Management of the school as well as GES had assured the President and Ghanaians that the development will be investigated and the right punishment applied accordingly.

But while many called for sanctions against the students, Child Rights International advised the Ghana Education Service (GES) against the victimization of the students.
The Executive Director of Child Rights International, Bright Appiah in an interview, rather called for the reformation of the students.
“When children exhibit things that are abnormal the interest of the state is to correct that abnormality. The system of correcting that behavior is not a kind of system that should bring victimization. It is not a kind of system that should tarnish the image of the children but it should be the system that will reform them and then rehabilitate them so that they can see things from the normal perspective in terms of how the state expects children will behave at the particular age and all that.”
